The selection of the level of the hydraulicfluid viscosity must be determined based on the type of hydraulic pumps:
Pump type | Optimal viscosity range | Min working viscosity | Max starting viscosity |
Vane pumps | 25~68mm2/s | >10mm2/s | <700mm2/s |
Plunger pumps | 30~115mm2/s | >8mm2/s | <1000mm2/s |
Gear pumps | 30~115mm2/s | >20mm2/s | <2000mm2/s |
Secondarily, consideration should be taken to the working conditions of pumps: higherviscosity must be selected for the use of the hydraulic system with higher temperatureand pressure; Lower viscosity should be selected if the temperature andpressure is lower. It is also required to note that the working viscosity of hydraulicfluid under the lowest temperature of the system should not be greater than themaximum starting viscosity of pumps.
